|cogitationitis||08:13 pm - 25th Arisia Guest suggestions wanted|
As some of you know, I've been appointed conchair for the 25th Arisia in 2014. I'm looking for guest suggestions. And no, we can't get Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett, nor do we want any actors (we're not a media con). Please email suggestions privately to my gmail address, LHertel. Thanks!
Cherie Priest just moved back to Tenn., so she is sort of East Coast now.
I doubt you can get him, due to his very busy schedule currently, but grrm
Larry Correia of Monster Hunter fame would be nice.
Scott Sigler of Infect and Contagious, and Ancestor, and much more.
Bryan Lee O'Malley of Scott Pilgrim Fame
we're not a media con
might as well be given the number of movies, anime, costuming, and special showings. mixed media art show? just sayin' :D
so i was just happening to be talking to Toni Weisskopf at a "con"... a weird con in Atlanta, last weekend (NOT D*C of course...)
she was mentioning that Larry will be doing book signings for the the next Monster Hunter Inc thing in Boston "this Summer"
could be a great time to snag him for a bit, and sign him up for Arisia. fun.
small worlds collide.

Sheri S. Tepper!
Possibly Paolo Bacigalupi? I would be pretty thrilled if he was a guest at Arisia.
RadioLab guys, Jad Abumrad & Rober Crowich.
They are cool people & perhaps they can do a show about the con!
Given that Ellen Kushner has done the occasional Sound & Spirit at Arisia, Boskone, Readercon, and where-ever, there IS precedent for NPR programming at Boston-area cons. :)
IIRC EK was GoH in 1994(?).
It would be cool to get a local station (maybe WBUR?) to do a live broadcast from the con. (Click & Clack, now -that- would be different.)
I totally second Jad and Robert, but I am all for trying to get Ursula Vernon. Also awesome would be Catherynne M. Valente, Saladin Ahmed...I would go for John Scalzi, but he was just here for Boskone.
Definitely seconded on all those, especially Ursula and Saladin.
Congratulations/condolences, Lisa! *)
Shouldn't we be emailing instead of posting? :)
I already sent the private email with my suggestions. But I wonder if we could partner with WBUR to have them broadcast some of their shows from the con? Radio Boston would be great, Car Talk funny, but Wait Wait Don't tell me, with our guest of honor being their guest would be a major hit
Also, she's more of a webcomic person, but she's written a few great books (not all fiction)- C. Spike Trotman.
I object! I think Arisia is so totally a media-friendly con! We don't need an actor guest to prove that! But, how about a GoH who writes for SF movies or TV? There is most certainly a way to get one of these writers to Arisia!!!
